Who would have known that Ras Al Khaimah, located in the northern part of the United Arab Emirates often referred to as “RAK” has an abundance of hidden treasures and history?
Starting with RAK Nature’s Treasures founded in September 2014 by an Emirati man named Tariq Al Salman. Tariq had a vision as a young boy to acquire a local farm somewhere between the beach, desert and mountains of Ras Al Khaimah. Alongside his father, his love and passion for nature, valleys, streams, local seashells, animals, birds, and history began at a young age.
Tariq took the plunge to embark on the journey and to build his dream; a natural history museum in the heart of Ras Al Khaimah. Today recognized as “RAK Natures Treasures”. But this was not to be a normal history museum.
“Tariq wanted a museum with a “one-stop-shop” feel. A place where you can see animals, engage with them, filled with crops and vegetables all under one location”.
He wanted to connect his passion with animals and plants to something the general public could enjoy and experience with an element of adventure and fun. Tariq travelled to the World is seek of treasures, gemstones, fossils and seashells.
As his collection started to grow he realized there is a market for those who seek to explore history and nature. He started to add more and to his collection which can now be viewed in the museum at RAK Natures Treasure.
The museum consists of a collection of around 2500 rare species preserved in their natural form. The museum and farm can be visited daily upon reservation. Guests will be assisted with a guide to show them around the farm, and the museum.
